White Pigment

White Pigments are engineered composites of titanium dioxide and calcium carbonate that deliver strong opacity while helping reduce TiO₂ use by 10-50%, depending on the application.

Grade & Table Specifications

The table below shows our six White Pigment grades. Compare the specification and particle size figures to match fineness to your formulation.

Grade Type SiO₂ (%) Particle size Refractive Index D50, microns Reflectance (R457) Oil Absorption (/100g) pH (10% slurry) Specific Gravity Applications Stocked In
FP440 powder 1.85 99.0 n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a Paint & Coatings DBN & CPT
FP550 powder 1.85 98.8 n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a Plastics #
X-Pure TiO3 Core-shell hybrid replacement pigment n/a n/a 2.7 0.7 max >97% 28 9.0 ± 0.5 3.53 Paint & Coatings DBN & CPT
X-Pure TiO4 Core-shell hybrid replacement pigment, weather-resistant 2.7 0.7 max >98% 27 7.0 ± 0.5 3.52 Paint & Coatings DBN & CPT
X-Paque K-98 Engineered synthesis crystal platform coated with titanium dioxide 2 <0.7 >96% 53 10.0 ± 0.5 2.6 Paint & Coatings DBN & CPT
X-Paque K-99 Engineered synthesis crystal platform coated with titanium dioxide 1.8 ≤ 1.0 > 98% 40 10.0 ± 0.5 2.60 Paint & Coatings DBN & CPT

NOTE: # = Not in SA but can be ordered in FCLs (Full Container Loads). X-Paque K-98 is acid-sensitive, not suitable for acid-containing coating systems. X-Pure TiO4 offers enhanced weather resistance, suited to exterior coatings. X-Pure TiO3 is the general-purpose grade of the two.

technical highlights

Key Performance Benefits

High refractive index (1.85)

Unusually close to TiO₂ itself, meaning this extender contributes genuine opacity rather than acting as inert bulk filler.

TiO₂ substitution capability (10–50%)

Lets paint formulators reduce costly TiO₂ loading while maintaining hiding power, a direct cost saving.

Fine, controlled particle size

Consistent particle distribution (D50=1.1u) supports predictable dispersion and opacity contribution batch to batch.

Cross-application versatility

FP440 suited to Paint & Coatings and FP550 to Plastics, giving formulators both options from the same product family.
