Kaolin, or china clay, is a fine, bright hydrous aluminium silicate used in ceramics and as a filler in adhesives, rubber, paint and laundry soap bars.   We supply locally milled kaolin as well as several imported water-washed kaolins which have lower free silica content.

Grade & Table Specifications

The table compares seven kaolin grades, from washed and milled to calcined and non-irradiated types, with specifications and recommended applications. Use particle size (D50) and reflectance (R457) to match fineness and brightness, and check the chemical content (SiO₂, Al₂O₃, Fe₂O₃, TiO₂) for compatibility with your process.

Key Performance Benefits

Platy particle structure

Kaolin's naturally flat, plate-like particles improve smoothness, barrier properties and ink holdout, particularly valuable in inks and coating applications.

Lower free silica in washed grades

Imported water-washed kaolins (Alusil SX and HW , B.P. Grade Kaolin) reduce abrasiveness compared to milled grades, an advantage in rubber and fine industrial filler use.

Thermal stability through calcination

Calcined grades (HT-90) retain high reflectance even after firing (93), while the metakaolin grade (Ecopozz MTK 60) offers pozzolanic reactivity for construction/concrete applications.

Absorptivity

Makes kaolin an excellent carrier in agriculture. Its clay properties mean it can be formed into pellets, plus it is a safe, inert and natural mineral that has been extracted from the earth.
